My bedcovers are from Tesco and I am literally so in love with them it’s unreal. The black and white pillow at the back is from Ikea and the Domino pillow in front is from Wilko. I was going to have a load more pillows but decided against it as I really like the way these look together. The grey blanket is one I’ve had for a while and it was £5 from Primark.
Everything in this photo is from Ikea except my glasses! The bedside cabinet is the MALM in white, the lamp was £12 which I thought was actually quite cheap considering how big it is, and I bought the alarm clock last year but I believe they still have it for about £5. I’m really going to try and keep this as clear as possible as I always seem to end up with loads of crap on my bedside table which gets pretty annoying.
Again, pretty much everything furniture-wise is from Ikea: lamp, desk, candle, and then I just have my planner (review here), my Macbook and Jamie’s 30 minute meals which I’m currently trying to pick my favourites from. I didn’t choose the curtains myself and I’m yet to decide if I can be bothered to buy new ones. Obviously they don’t go at all, but they do block out light well and I’m not sure if it’s worth investing in a pair of curtains for the sake of a temporary university room.
On to the fun stuff: my desk. This chair is literally the best thing ever, from Ikea – surprise, surprise – but it just looks SO COOL. The pillow is also Ikea and I’m pretty sure the white storage boxes are too. The floral one is from an Urban Outfitters set.
As for books, I bought loads with me last year and barely read any of them so I’ve tried to cut down. I have four that I haven’t read: Waiting For Robert Capa, The Kite Runner, You Are Next and Hide and Seek; two that I have read: If Nobody Speaks of Remarkable Things and In Cold Blood; and then two that I consider related to my uni course which are The Dictionary of Critical Theory (sounds fun right?) and Connected, which I’m hoping I can include in essays.
The main piece of furniture that was already in my room was a wardrobe unit that came with a chest of drawers and a mini cupboard thing built in. I probably should have taken a photo as it’s difficult to describe, but it’s so ugly I’d rather just forget about it. If you’re really that curious you can sort of see what it looks like in the first picture of my decor post (here). Anyway, on top of the chest of drawers is the area where I do my makeup and I’ve been keeping some of it in these three containers from Ikea. The pink one is for makeup brushes and the green one is for nail varnish (obviously), the larger white one is for lipsticks and then the glass bowl thing holds all my kirby grips, hair clips and hair ties. You can also just about see my Tangle Teezer in the bottom corner which doesn’t really have a place on my shelf so just sits next to everything else. The rest of my makeup is stored in the top drawer of the chest of drawers, but it’s all messy and disorganised at the moment so I didn’t want to photograph it!
There are two small shelves built into the side of the cupboard section (above the containers) and I use the bottom one to store all my bottles and tubs (i.e. all the beauty crap I own). It looks a bit disorganised but I kind of like it anyway.
I use the shelf above that to hold all my perfumes and body sprays and then the box is another one of the Urban Outfitters ones that I use to store my medical stuff such as paracetamol, plasters, lemsip etc. I didn’t have anywhere else to put my Instax Mini, so it’s on display on top of the box!
That’s pretty much it for what I guess is an updated room ‘tour’. I probably won’t do another one of these for a couple of years which is kind of scary to think about as when I next get to decorate a room from scratch it’ll probably be when I’ve moved out completely and am living on my own!
Do you enjoy decorating your room or do you find it boring?
