We all struggle with blogging occasionally, but working out how to get out of a blogging funk can be pretty tough. Everyone deals with struggling for content differently, so here are a few ideas to spark that motivation. Let me know how you get out of a blogging funk – are you similar to me or do you have other ideas?
Refresh some of your old content
This is my number one go-to when I’m in a bit of a funk blog-wise. I’m proud of a lot of my old content but it can always be updated or improved, and it’s a great way of blogging whilst you’re all out of ideas. Take some new photos if you’re feeling inspired or just add in some bullet points to make some of your old content more readable.
Ask your followers
I’m not totally on board with your followers dictating your content as it can come across as forced, but asking what others like to read from you could help stir some creativity. Ask them why they like what they like, or run a poll on Twitter to find out their favourite content. Even if it just makes you consider what you actually want to write about and what you just aren’t interested in anymore, it’s probably worth thinking about.
Take a photo walk
I keep banging on about Gwennan’s content but she recently wrote about the benefits of taking an Instagram walk and this is something I’m personally dying to do. When I am next in London I plan to just have a day of tube-hopping and visiting all the places I’ve been wanting to get to but have never quite had time for. This obviously has a double benefit as you’ll have an abundance of new Instagram photos as well as potential blogging photos. You’ll also have got some new experiences under your belt which might fuel a new post idea – how to see your city in 24 hours, for example.
Go to an event or hang out with other bloggers
Whilst this isn’t always possible, I always feel so inspired after being around other bloggers. Writing up a post about the event is always guaranteed content, but throw around some ideas you’ve been having to get some different perspectives. I’ve written about what to expect at blog events which was a post completely inspired by being out and about with other bloggers.
Try some new products/restaurants/blog tactics
Whatever you usually post about, try and find something new. Try a new social media strategy and write about it or visit somewhere you wouldn’t expect to love and see where it leads you. You could also try and kickstart your creativity by visiting a gallery or having a go at a new craft or skill.
Take a break
Sometimes, the only thing you can do to get back in the game is to get away from it all. There’s no shame in taking a break from your blog and if all else fails, you might find it’s the best way of getting back into it. I seem to take mini breaks all the time at the moment, and it does help me to focus on creating content I’m actually proud of instead of just writing for the sake of writing.
